Homicide unit investigating death of woman, 53, in northeast Edmonton

The homicide unit is investigating the death of a 53-year-old woman at a home in the Belmont neighbourhood of northeast Edmonton early Monday.

The home is near 130th Avenue and 32nd Street, police say.

Officers were called to the home at about 12:30 a.m., where they found the woman's body.

Neighbour Caleb Hildebrand, who has lived in the community for three years, but did not know the residents of the home, watched as police completed their investigation.

He said he's always felt safe in the community.

"I know my neighbours on both sides and everybody I've met seems nice so far," he said.

"I haven't had any issues living here. To think that something here, that happens so close to home is scary."

Police removed two small dogs from the home.

With the medical examiner's office closed Easter Monday, an autopsy will not be scheduled until later in the week, police said.

Police are not saying whether they have a suspect or if anyone has been arrested.
