Random Island man taken into custody after incident at house

Police took a man into custody without incident on Random Island Tuesday after surrounding his home for hours, after friends and family expressed concern about his wellbeing.

RCMP dispatched officers to Robinson's Bight after receiving a call shortly after midnight, after residents close to the man expressed concern about his wellbeing.

The man, who is believed to be in his mid-30s, was taken to receive medical attention as a precaution, police say.

RCMP were not able to reach the man until Wednesday afternoon. He is believed to have been alone in the house, which is under construction.

Trained negotiators were part of the police presence called to Robinson's Bight to contact the man.

"We don't believe that there's any threat to anybody outside of that home," Staff-Sgt. Greg Hicks told CBC News before the incident was resolved.

"We're just taking every effort to safely contact him."
