Police offer $10,000 reward to solve homicide of Jason Nguyen, 15

Vancouver police are offering a $10,000 reward to help solve the homicide of a 15-year-old boy who was killed one year ago.

Jason Nguyen died in hospital July 26, 2015 after he was attacked near, or at his house in East Vancouver. Police said he may have been targeted because of an aquaintance, but he had no gang connections.

"He had no associations to crime whatsoever and he is truly an innocent child," said Staff Sergeant Randy Fincham.

Fincham said the teenager was at home with his sister at their house on East 24th Avenue near Rupert Street, when he stumbled into her bedroom, covered in blood.

Tiffany called 911. Police have not disclosed how the teen was killed, and say Jason was too injured to describe to his sister what happened to him.

At the news conference, Tiffany, 18, who was joined by her mother Kim, appealed to the public to help police solve Jason's murder.

"My brother is just a regular kid," she said. "He's just my younger brother. He just likes to do everyday teenager activities like playing games with his friends and stuff.

'Just a normal family'

"He wasn't associated with any crime."

Tiffany said she's heard rumours that "we're a gang family. We're not. We're just a normal family."

She and her parents are devastated.

"He's my only brother and it's so hard for me. And it's really hard for my parents too because they're really, really sad.

"They raised him up to now, and suddenly he's just gone and they don't know why. He's a good kid. He doesn't do anything bad."

Police say they would like to talk to any "who knows what happened to Jason on July 26, 2015."
