Police investigating body found near Bathurst and College as a homicide

Toronto police have declared the death of person whose body was found near Bathurst and College streets Sunday morning a homicide.

Det. Shawn Mahoney of Toronto police's homicide unit told media Sunday afternoon that police received a call at approximately 8:30 a.m. regarding a lifeless male at a Lippincott Street patio.

Toronto police's medical team confirmed the person was dead and the body had obvious signs of trauma.

Police say they are unable to determine the victim's cause of death at this point, but a postmortem is scheduled for tomorrow.

Police also do not have an age for the victim, but they believe he is between 20 and 25 years old.

Witnesses have told police an altercation may have happened last night, and police are appealing for more witnesses to come forward with more information.

Russ Nicholls, the owner of a nearby restaurant, told CBC Toronto one of his employees saw the body on a patio.

Nicholls said he and the employee tried to help the male until police and paramedics arrived, but he was unresponsive.

Mahoney said police don't yet have a suspect description.
