Missing P.E.I. man found safe

A chopper arrived Tuesday afternoon to assist searchers in St. Teresa.

Cleve Shirk is back at home safe after he went missing Monday night, RCMP confirm.

RCMP said Shirk, 64, went for a walk Monday night at around 11:30 p.m. on some trails behind his home in St. Teresa.

Shirk apparently decided he'd walk to Montague, roughly 18 kilometres away, according to Cpl. Scott Stephenson.

Shirk was picked up by a friend who saw his disappearance on the news and drove Shirk home.

Ground and air searches were on scene for most of Tuesday.

An added concern was that Shirk is diabetic.

He had no insulin or food with him, just a walking stick and a bottle of water.

Shirk's family told CBC News they're thankful to police and members of the search and rescue team.

Stephenson says it serves as a reminder to always let someone know where you're going when heading out alone.
