4 people still in hospital after crash north of Orangeville, Ont., police search for 3rd vehicle

Four people are still in hospital, one with critical injuries, after a head-on two-vehicle crash north of Orangeville on Saturday night that injured six people in all, the Ontario Provincial Police says.

Police are also looking for the driver of a third vehicle, believed to be a blue Volkswagen, that allegedly hit a Toyota Camry involved in the crash after some of its occupants had managed themselves to get out of the wreckage.

The third vehicle fled the scene, police said, leaving behind a driver's side mirror.

Const. Paul Nancekivell, spokesperson for the OPP, said police were called to the scene on Airport Road, north of the Village of Mansfield in Mulmur Township, at about 6:40 p.m. Saturday.

That's where a southbound Toyota Camry carrying four passengers and a northbound Mitsubishi RVR, carrying two passengers, had crashed, leaving four in life-threatening condition. Many of the injured were trapped in their vehicles and needed to be extricated by emergency workers.

Two of the six injured have since been been treated and released. None are currently suffering from life-threatening injuries.

On Sunday, provincial police released an extensive list of injuries to those involved:

- A 53-year-old male driver of the Mitsubishi, of Mulmur Township, suffered critical injuries, including a broken femur, sternum and wrist, and head injuries. He was taken to a Toronto area hospital and is non-life-threatening condition.

- A 20-year-old man, a passenger in the same car, was treated and released.

- A 58-year-old female driver of the Toyota Camry, of Marmora, Ont., suffered neck, back and chest pain and an injury to her right leg and foot. She was taken to a Toronto hospital.

- A 51-year-old man, of Stayner, Ont., a rear passenger in the Toyota Camry, suffered a dislocated right hip and broken left hip and broken shoulder. He was taken to a Toronto area hospital.

- A 35-year-old woman, of Stayner, Ont., a rear passenger in the Toyota Camry suffered bilateral fractures to her femurs, a fractured pelvis and internal bleeding. She was taken to a Toronto area hospital.

- Meanwhile, an 18-year-old male passenger in the same vehicle, also of Marmora, Ont., was treated and released.

A stretch of Airport Road, closed between Dufferin County Road 17 and the 15th Side Road for the investigation, was reopened just before 5 a.m. on Sunday.
