Police seek possible witness to fatal crash on Merivale Road

Police are asking for help to find someone who might have important information about a fatal crash on Merivale Road early in the morning of March 25.

The crash happened just after 2:30 a.m. on the Saturday when a Honda car struck a utility pole shortly after passing a hatchback with dark paint. The force of the crash split the car into several segments and the two people inside were trapped.

A 27-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 20-year-old man suffered serious injuries. The injured man remains in hospital recovering, police said in a media release issued Tuesday.

Investigators believe the dark-coloured hatchback was heading south on Merivale at the time and was passed by the Honda, which then crashed a short time later.

Police have not been able to find the hatchback or the driver, who is a possible witness.
