Police shoot, kill man after he stabbed his mother, 2 other family members at Hialeah home: cops
A man was killed by police gunfire after three people were found stabbed at a Hialeah home on Wednesday morning, investigators say.
Shortly before 4:30 a.m., officers responded to reports of a domestic disturbance at a house in the 4200 block of West Fifth Court, according to police. When they arrived, they found a person with stab wounds outside the home.
Inside, they located two other people who had been stabbed — and an armed man, a news release states. Two of the stabbing victims were taken to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. The other was already dead at the scene.
“As officers were rendering aid to the victims, there was a confrontation between officers and the armed suspect, where officers were forced to discharge their weapons,” police said in a statement.
On Thursday morning, police identified the armed man as 30-year-old Alex Gonzalez Jr. The dead stabbing victim was his mother 49-year-old Madeline Gonzalez, who would have turned 50 the day after the incident.
The two people hospitalized were identified as his 17-year-old sister and his grandmother, 69-year-old Rosa Gonzalez, listed on property records as the owner of the home.
Video taken by Miami Herald news partner CBS News Miami shows officers firing at the man.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
