Man arrested after overnight standoff with Edmonton police

A man has been taken into custody after an overnight stand-off with Edmonton police concluded Friday morning.

The 39-year-old suspect was arrested after a standoff with police at a northeast residence near 127th Avenue and 67th Street.

The man is facing several domestic violence and public mischief-related charges in connection with the incident, police said.

Police were asking commuters to avoid northeast Edmonton near 127th Avenue and 67th Street as officers dealt with the standoff.

The incident began at 1:30 a.m. as a domestic violence complaint, police spokesperson Scott Pattison said in a media advisory.

No firearms were believed to be involved, he said.

All roads in the area have now been reopened.
