Police warning public after nude stranger grabs woman sexually in Calgary park
Police are warning Calgarians to be vigilant after a naked man approached a group of three women walking through a southwest park late at night, grabbing one of them in a sexual manner and pinning another to the ground.
Police say the women had been at a residence in the 900 block of Ridge Road S.W. on Saturday before leaving the home at about 11 p.m.
On their way back, at around 12:55 a.m., the women walked through Elbow Park along a pathway when an unknown man appeared without clothes.
"A nude, unknown man suddenly grabbed one of the women in a sexual nature," police said Monday in a news release.
"The man proceeded to pin one of the other women down to the ground," police said. "Two of the women were able to escape and run back to the residence, where they called police."
Officers responding to the scene found the third woman, who was walking alone back to the residence, at about 1:05 a.m.
Police did door knocks in the area and used a helicopter and canine unit to search for the man.
He is described as a Caucasian male with dark hair and facial hair.
None of the woman were hospitalized, police said.
"Serious incidents, especially when they appear to be random, are extremely concerning for victims and for the whole community," said Staff Sgt. Brad Moore of the Calgary Police Service.
"We have increased patrols in the area where the reported attack occurred, and officers are continuing to investigate. We are asking citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police."
