Port Mann Bridge tolls to rise as drivers return to B.C. crossing
Drivers who use B.C.'s Port Mann Bridge will soon be paying more for each crossing as toll rates are hiked.
From August 15, a single crossing of the bridge — which connects Surrey with Coquitlam — will cost $3.15, up from the current rate of $3.
TReO, the operating brand of the crown corporation Transportation Investment Corporation (TIC) that manages the bridge, cited costs related to building, operating and maintaining the bridge as the reason for the hike.
Tolls are not being raised in order to make a profit, a statement from TReO said Thursday.
The number of drivers using the 2012-constructed bridge has only recently begun to improve after an initial drop in crossings when full toll rates were introduced in Jan. 2014.
According to TIC's website, traffic this year has grown five per cent compared to the same months in 2014, equivalent to more than 30,000 additional crossings.
Unlimited monthly pass holder rates are also changing as follows:
- $80 per month for a motorcycle
- $155 per month for a small vehicle
- $315 per month for a medium vehicle
