Portable classroom goes up in flames in Winnipeg's Riverbend neighbourhood

A portable classroom at a north Winnipeg school is gutted after a fire early Wednesday.

Crews were called to Ecole Riverbend around 2 a.m. and flames were shooting 10 metres into the air, a fire official said.

Brian O'Leary, superintendent for Seven Oaks School Division, said classes won't be interrupted because the building was being used for storage.

It doesn't appear there is any damage to the rest of the school, he said. The portable was attached to a vacant wing of the main school and the fire doors were closed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
