Portadown striker celebrates prematurely as Storm Dennis deluge leaves goal-bound shot stuck in the mud
A Portadown FC player celebrated prematurely during his side’s game against Queens University in Northern Ireland on Saturday, failing to realise his goal-bound shot had not crossed the line due to the muddy surface in the six-yard box.
Adam Salley had pounced on a long ball and accelerated away from the Queens defence before slotting a shot past the opposition goalkeeper.
The forward then wheeled away in celebration, believing the strike would cross the line.
The ball, however, held up in the playing surface, which – like many pitches – had been affected by the rain of Storm Dennis.
Salley’s team-mate reached the ball before the Queens defenders to slam it home as Salley danced with his back to goal.
It was still a successful afternoon for Salley, though, who notched a hat-trick as his side emerged 7-1 winners.
Storm Dennis also caused several football matches in Northern Ireland to be called off over the weekend.
