Portion of Pembina Highway will be closed over May long

At least 2 months to go in Fredericton's summer construction to-do list

A portion of Pembina Highway will be completely closed down this weekend.

Starting 8 p.m. on Friday, the city says both directions of Pembina between Jubilee Avenue and Stafford Street will be closed to vehicle traffic.

The road will open again at 4 a.m. on Tuesday.

The road is being closed for construction of the Southwest Rapid Transitway and the widening of Pembina Highway, which the city says will take place around the clock over the weekend.

The city is warning drivers to allow additional time to get to their destinations, or to use alternate routes like Osborne Street, Waverley Street or Kenaston Boulevard.

Pedestrians will be able to access the area by shuttle service, with two pick-up and drop-off points. Those are located:

- North of the underpass on the east side of Pembina Highway opposite Harrow Street.

- South of the underpass on the east side at the Jubilee Avenue yield onto Pembina Highway.

Roadway access for transit and emergency vehicles will be maintained during the closure, the city says.
