Bicyclist flown by medical helicopter from Bellefonte waterfront after crash
A 36-year-old female bicyclist was flown by medical helicopter from the Bellefonte waterfront Thursday afternoon after a crash.
The crash occurred at North Potter/North Thomas Street, Bellefonte Police Chief Shawn Weaver said. A vehicle was turning onto North Thomas Street when a female, who was riding a bicycle, came into the vehicle’s pathway.
Weaver said the driver of the vehicle had no reaction time and the vehicle and bicyclist collided. The driver of the vehicle was not at fault, Weaver said.
The bicyclist had injuries to her legs and head, but she was conscious, alert and oriented at the scene, he said. First responders set up a landing zone for a helicopter on the waterfront and the bicyclist was life flighted.
No alcohol or drugs are suspected to be involved, Weaver said.
Potter and Dunlop streets were closed for a short time Thursday afternoon and were both back open by 3:30 p.m. Bellefonte EMS and fire companies were on the scene.
