Manchester United brushed Aston Villa aside, after a dubious penalty call handed them the lead on Thursday evening, to move them to within one point of fourth spot.

Ezri Konsa has judged to have fouled Bruno Fernandes, who stepped up to score from the spot, though replays suggested the defender may have been fouled. Mason Greenwood and Paul Pogba put the result beyond doubt.

Earlier, Tottenham toiled to a goalless draw at Bournemouth in a game overshadowed by a nasty looking injury to Adam Smith.

On Wednesday, Liverpool are three wins away from a record Premier League points haul after beating a spirited Brighton side on Wednesday evening. Manchester City thrashed Newcastle and West Ham fell to a home loss to Burnley.

On Tuesday, Chelsea moved up to third on Tuesday with a narrow win over Crystal Palace before Leicester City had to settle for a point at Arsenal.
