‘Price is Right’ Plinko dream come true: Ontario personal support worker wins OLG's largest jackpot for the game

A personal support worker from Hamilton, Ont., got to live out a Price is Right dream when she became the first person to win $500,000 on the real Plinko board at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto.

Florence Kalu was making some photocopies and purchased an Instant Plinko ticket at the Blue Willow Variety & Communication on Upper James Street in Hamilton.

“The machine started ringing! I kept asking what I won,” the 49-year-old said.

When Kalu realized she was a top prize winner and was going to get the opportunity to drop a chip on the board in Toronto, she was a bundle of nerves.

“When I dropped the chip – I was lost in the moment,” she said. “Then I looked at the monitor and saw it landed on $500,000 and I was beyond excited!”

Her reaction was anything but calm, shouting, shaking, raising her hands and falling to the floor in disbelief that she actually just won half a million dollars.

Kalu has plans to “rest her mind” before deciding how to spend her $500,000 winnings, but she intends to “give back and change the lives of others.”

How do you win in Instant Plinko?

For Instant Plinko, players scratch five “lucky numbers” and 24 “your numbers.” Player need to match any of the lucky numbers with one of the your numbers to win a prize $5 to $100,000, or a chip prize.

If the chip prize is won, any OLG retail location must validate the ticket. The player can then watch the animated Plinko chip drop on the lottery terminal screen to reveal the prize, which can range from $10 to $100,000, or a Plinko top prize.

If the prize displayed is Plinko, that individual qualifies to go to the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to win a guaranteed prize of $100,000 to $500,000.
