Pride flag raised in Bolton to celebrate Pride Month

June is Pride Month, and the Pride flag has been raised in Bolton to mark the occasion.

On June 8, local groups Caledon Pride and Youth Activists Inc. came together for a flag-raising ceremony in Downtown Bolton at the gazebo at Queen and Sterne streets.

Jules Bertola, founder of Caledon Pride, said they were glad to be raising the Pride flag again in Bolton.

“The Pride Flag symbolizes the progress we have made in our community and serves as a reminder of the work that lies ahead,” said Bertola.

Dmytro Basmat, President of Youth Activists Inc., was honoured to be at the flag-raising ceremony once again.

"This is the third year we have raised this Pride flag in our community,” said Basmat. “What started off as a grassroots movement has grown into a Caledon-wide celebration. Year after year, we continue to hold this event as we celebrate inclusion and build a stronger, more vibrant community.”

Basmat said Pride Month is an opportunity for individuals of all backgrounds to come together, learn from one another, and strengthen the bonds that make Caledon thrive.

Bertola said it’s important to promote a Caledon where love and acceptance know no bounds.

“Let us embrace the spirit of Pride Month, educate ourselves, and stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community,” said Bertola.
