Prince William Knights Beatles Rocker Ringo Starr
Ringo Starr has officially been knighted.
Prince William bestowed the honor to the legendary Beatles drummer during the Investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday. The 77-year-old musician was recognized for his service to music after a career spanning over 50 years.
"It means a lot actually," Starr told the BBC. "It means recognition for the things we've done. Musically and in life and I was really pleased to accept this." News of his knighthood was first announced at the end of last year.
"It’s great! It’s an honor and a pleasure to be considered and acknowledged for my music and my charity work, both of which I love," Starr expressed at the time.
Starr first received an honor from Queen Elizabeth II in 1965 when he and fellow Beatles Paul McCartney, John Lennon and George Harrison received an MBE. He is the second Beatle to be knighted. McCartney received his nearly 20 years ago.
Following the ceremony, Starr admitted to missing his bandmates this time around, expressing, "I was a bit shaky today on my own.
