Prince William dropped some of his royal duties after Kensington Palace revealed that Kate Middleton was hospitalized due to a planned abdominal surgery. According to People, Wills is postponing any engagements to support his family and be by his wife's side after the procedure. The couple was originally set to travel for some international trips, but William has reportedly shifted his schedule in light of Kate's surgery.
"The surgery was successful, and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery," reads Kensington Palace's statement. "Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter."
Kate's last public appearance was on Christmas when she and the rest of the royal family went on their annual walk to church. Earlier that month, she hosted her third annual Together At Christmas concert at Westminster Abbey and celebrated the first year of her "Shaping Us" early childhood campaign.
Wills, on the other hand, recently made an appearance in Leeds to pay tribute to Kevin Sinfield and Rob Burrow for their work supporting Motor Neurone Disease on January 11. Per Kensington Palace's statement, "The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private." The Palace also revealed that updates about Kate will be shared "when there is significant new information to share."
"The Princess of Wales wishes to apologise to all those concerned for the fact that she has to postpone her upcoming engagements. She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible," they added.
