Earlier, this week, Princess Charlene shared some holiday well-wishes and a sweet illustrated image of her family over Instagram, wishing her followers a happy holiday, but it wasn't then clear exactly what the Christmas season would look like for Charlene herself. The princess has been convalescing outside of Monaco in recent weeks to recover from "exhaustion, both emotional and physical," and there was speculation at the time as to whether she would be able to reunite with her husband, Prince Albert, and their 7 year old twins, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, for Christmas.

Now, the palace has confirmed to People that Charlene is indeed expected to reunite with her family over the holiday at an undisclosed location where she is receiving treatment. Though it sounds as though the princess has been improving, the statement also notes that it may be quite some time before she returns to her usual royal routine.

"Princess Charlene is recuperating in a satisfactory and reassuring manner," the statement says, "although it may take a few more months before her health has reached a full recovery."

It's been a trying year for Charlene, who spent six months separated from her family while coping with a series of health issues in South Africa. After first leaving Monaco in May on what was expected to be a short trip, Charlene was ultimately only able to return in November to be with her husband and children. The reunion was short-lived, though, and less than two weeks after arriving back in Monaco it was announced that she would temporarily be stepping back from her royal duties to receive treatment outside of the country.
