Princess Charlotte will be starting nursery in January 2018, Kensington Palace announced via social media this morning.

The two-year-old, who will be turning three in May, is set to start at Willcocks Nursery School in Kensington, London in the new year.

The nursery, which costs £14,500 a year, is said to be “delighted” that Charlotte will be joining them.

Charlotte’s first day will involve a ‘stay and play’ which will involve William and Kate settling their daughter in before leaving her for a short while to see if she can cope. Eventually, she will be left for an entire morning or afternoon.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge accompanied the announcement with a new family photograph.

The polished portrait, taken by Chris Jackson of Getty Images, sees William, Kate, Prince George and Princess Charlotte in an assortment of blue clothing.

Taken earlier this year, most likely before the Duchess’ pregnancy was announced, the image was selected by the family to star on their 2017 Christmas card.

Kate wears a powder blue belted skirt suit by Catherine Walker in the image. The same two-piece that she wore on her first official solo trip to the Netherlands in October 2016.

Princess Charlotte is wearing the same printed blue dress we saw her in while arriving in Germany as part of the summer 2017 royal tour.

Prince George, meanwhile, wears his traditional shirt-and-shorts combo.

The portrait is a far cry from their usual casual shots which have seen the family appear in skiwear on holiday and laughing in the gardens of Kensington Palace.
