Princess Kate Tested Her Strength with a Body Harness and Tires

Captain Preet Chandi celebrated her record-breaking expedition across Antarctica with the Princess of Wales.

Today, Princess Kate visited Landau Forte College Derby to meet with Chandi, who has returned from Antarctica after breaking the world record for the furthest unsupported solo Polar expedition in history. Chandi beat the previous record of 907 miles set by retired Lieutenant Colonel Henry Worsley in 2015 by covering 922 miles in 70 days and 16 hours. She accomplished this by skiing for 13-15 hours per day, pulling all of her supplies on a sledge that weighed 120 kg (or about 265 lbs) in -30° C and wind speeds of up to 60 mph.

Kate greeted Chandi in a business-casual look, wearing a white structured blazer with gold buttons, a white blouse, navy blue tapered trousers, and white sneakers. She accessorized with drop earrings and a black belt.

Later, the princess shed her blazer to try her hand at pulling tires across a platform while strapped into a body harness. The activity simulates Chandi's experience of pulling her supplies during her historic polar journey.

"I need to do some training," Kate said afterwards, according to the Daily Mail.

Kate additionally joined Chandi, who works as a physiotherapist and is a serving member of the British Army, as she kicked off a U.K.-wide tour of schools, where she will speak to students about her expedition and the life-changing opportunities of the outdoors.

Together, Chandi and Kate presented an award to Simrat Soggi, one of the winners of Chandi’s national school logo competition. The duo also met with a group of Year 11 and Year 13 students to talk about building resilience and mental wellbeing.
