Principal of Fayette’s Brenda Cowan Elementary school resigns, takes job in another state

The principal of Lexington’s Brenda Cowan Elementary School has resigned and taken a job in another state, district spokesperson Dia Davidson-Smith confirmed Wednesday.

Davidson-Smith said she did not know when Josh Williams resigned, describing it as a “personnel matter.”

Williams did not respond to an email from the Herald-Leader Wednesday.

Davidson-Smith said beginning September 3, 2024, Aslean White, the current Brenda Cowan Assistant Principal, will serve as Acting Brenda Cowan Principal for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year.

Cowan’s first day of the school year was Aug. 14, but it was not immediately clear if Williams was still principal then.

He was hired when the school opened in 2019, the Herald-Leader previously reported.
