Pro-skateboarders perform tricks in zero gravity

Professional skateboarders Tony Hawk and Aaron “Jaws” Homoki are able to live like astronauts as they perform tricks in zero gravity.

In a fun-filled video clip, the feeling of zero gravity is achieved thanks to a specially modified airplane able to perform arial maneuvers recreating various levels of gravitational pull for passengers.

“We’ve been battling gravity our whole lives. Today we get to try some tricks we’ve only ever dreamed about,” said Hawk.

The two first start out with the gravitational pull on Mars, or about one third of their body weights on Earth. The professional skateboarders immediately become giddy as they’re able to begin suspending themselves in mid-air.

Then its on to lunar gravity, where at one sixth their body weights the skaters can perform tricks off the ground unthinkable back down on earth.

But it’s at zero gravity, experiencing the sensation of true weightlessness, where things start to get interesting.

As Hawk explains in the clip, the feeling of zero gravity gives him no sense of where he is, making it especially difficult to pull off various skateboard maneuvers.

“So much for the dream list of tricks,” Hawk said. “You have so many ideas and once your weightless you forget what to do, accept to just enjoy it.”

What’s left is the image of the two frantically laughing pro skaters as they spin, float and crash into one another while having the time of their lives.
