Probation and $100 fine for Calgary police officer who broke into estranged wife's home
A Calgary police officer has been fined $100 and faces 12 months of probation for breaking into his estranged wife's home while she was away on vacation with their two children.
CBC News is not identifying the officer in order to protect the identity of the woman and the two children and will only refer to him as DC.
The break-in took place on April 13, 2016 in the midst of a contested divorce during which a judge granted the wife exclusive possession of the home the couple once shared.
DC was only allowed inside the home to gather some of his things and only with a police escort present.
According to an agreed statement of facts read in court in January when DC pleaded guilty to forcible entry, DC knew his wife was away and tried to enter the home, but the locks had been changed.
DC called a locksmith to help him enter the home and neighbours called police, knowing of the couple's situation.
He was arrested as he loaded items into his pickup.
DC was sentenced on July 21.
