Professional rodeo event announced for 2016 Agribition

Professional rodeo event announced for 2016 Agribition

One of the major entertainment elements of Agribition — a rodeo — will be part of the 2016 show, officials say.

The announcement was made Saturday in Regina as the 2015 Agribition was coming to a close and with it the final rodeo events that were organized by the Canadian Cowboys Association. That group is moving their showcase event from Regina to Swift Current, beginning in 2016.

The new show for Agribition will be in partnership with the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA) and was described as a kick-off event for that group's season.

According to officials, the participants will be selected based on their Pro Rodeo Canada standings at the end of the 2016 season (which takes place just prior to the start of Agribition).

Sixteen competitors will take part. They will battle for $100,000 in prize money.

Murray Milan, president of the CPRA, said rodeo fans will see the very best the sport has to offer.

"They'll have the opportunity to experience the top 16, I always call them athletes — people call them cowboys, cowgirls, I lean toward calling them athletes — in the rodeo world will be in front of you next year at Agribition."

The CPRA is based in Alberta and is associated with over 50 events through the course of a season. The group's premiere event is the Canadian Finals Rodeo.
