Centre Culturel La Ronde has unveiled its new community programming offering art, dance and cooking classes.

All events and activities, except for the cooking classes, will be held at the centre. The programming will run from April till June.

The programming includes yoga, watercolour painting, pop-up ballet, cooking classes, Moroccan dance, chalk couture, meditation, aerobics and a contemporary pop-up.

There is a minimum of four people and a maximum of eight people per class.

Yoga, chalk couture and virtual kitchen are offered once a week, while other activities take place over the course of three, four or eight weeks. People can register for the events online and select the dates that suit them best.

The launch of the programming was delayed a few times, said Lisa Bertrand, the centre’s executive director.

“Thanks to The Venture Centre, we got our grant to help us during COVID, during hard times to help the community development,” Bertrand said.

For virtual cooking classes, Merv Russell and Julie Lefebvre will take turns teaching how to make various dishes whether it’s a traditional francophone dish, a family recipe or a dish from a different culture. A minimum of five participants are required for the workshop to take place. The list of ingredients and the Zoom link will be sent after registration.

June 9, there will be a BBQ with Lefebvre and Russell at the centre, where they will make pork tenderloin with mushroom risotto, grilled caprese salad and grilled pineapple for dessert.

People don’t have to speak French to attend the events, Bertrand noted.

“We’re hoping the community will participate and support these awesome events we have planned,” she said. “Our prices are very reasonable and if you become a member, you get even cheaper prices.”

If another shutdown were to happen, La Ronde will try to offer the programming virtually, Bertrand said.
