Protesters gather outside McConnell's home on day Trump expected to make Supreme Court nomination

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – About a dozen protesters gathered outside Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's home on Saturday afternoon.

It's the second consecutive Saturday protesters have been there, and one said they plan to return every Saturday until the election in November.

The dozen or so protesters used spoons to hit pots and pans while they chanted "Vote him out" and "Say her name," referring to Breonna Taylor, the 26-year-old killed by police in March.

Melissa Beckham Born said she lives in the neighborhood and wanted to remind McConnell about his stance on not filling a U.S. Supreme Court vacancy during an election year.

"He's got a second set of standards when it comes to the Republicans and (President) Donald Trump and we're tired of it," she said. "We're tired of injustice. We're tired of inequality.

"It's time for him to do the right thing. It's time for people in Kentucky to do the right thing and vote him out of office."

A group of more than 100 protesters gathered outside his home last Saturday he said he would push to fill the U.S. Supreme Court vacancy created by the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Trump is expected to announce Amy Coney Barrett as his Supreme Court pick Saturday.

Beckham Born said protesters were there for a number of reasons, the Supreme Court nomination, justice for Breonna Taylor and supporting the Black Lives Matter movement.

"His policies, they hit us everywhere," she said. "They hit us in our reproductive rights. They hit us in our voting rights, equality, education – everything that he votes against that hinders and sets back the people of Kentucky and the entire United States at this point."
