Providence Day QB is No. 2 recruit nationally and will attend one of these 5 schools

Providence Day quarterback Jadyn Davis said during the 2022 high school football season that he wanted to make his college commitment early.

The 5-star recruit plans to announce his college commitment March 31 on campus, live on ESPN’s SportsCenter, and announced his five finalists Friday via a social media post. The programs are Ohio State, Michigan, Clemson, North Carolina and Tennessee.

Providence Day coach Chad Grier coached his son, Will, who was a national high school player of the year at Davidson Day School before starring at West Virginia, and he has coached new Notre Dame transfer Sam Hartman. Grier thinks Davis will make a fine quarterback for whichever one of the programs he chooses to join.

“He’s a fiercely competitive, hard-working and humble team player,” Grier said. “He has obvious talent, but it’s the intangibles that really set him apart: the leadership, the character, the work ethic. I mean, he attacks the weight room. He doesn’t miss a rep or a set, and he he’s very humble. He’ll go encourage and spot our young guys. The kids all respond to his leadership and charisma.

“It’s easy to be a 5-star big timer, but that’s not who he is. Jadyn is a 5-star grinder.”

A 6-foot, 185-pound junior, Davis is ranked as the nation’s No. 2 quarterback prospect and No. 28 overall by 247 Sports. Last season at Providence Day, he led the Chargers to a 12-1 record and back-to-back Division I N.C. state championships, a school-first.

He threw for 3,425 yards and 43 touchdowns against just six interceptions. In a 55-13 win against Charlotte Christian in the state championship game, Davis threw for 352 yards and six touchdowns.

After the season, Davis swept all of the major N.C. player of the year awards, including the state’s biggest, Mr. Football.

“Oh man,” said Weddington High coach Andy Capone, a state championship coach who has produced multiple Division I players, including Clemson’s Will Shipley. “He’s incredibly talented, and he can make every throw you ask him to make. He’s not the biggest guy but he’s tough as nails and he’ll stand in there and take a shot. I was incredibly impressed with im. He makes (Providence Day) go and you can see why he’s so highly recruited and highly ranked as a national prospect.”
