PSG and Bayern Munich secure places in knockouts of Champions league

Manchester United have almost made sure of a place in the knockout stage of the Champions League by beating Benfica 2-0 at Old Trafford CSKA Moscow won 2-1 at Basel in Tuesday’s other game in the group. Paris St Germain made certain their place in the last 16 in emphatic fashion when they extended their perfect Group B record with a 5-0 home win against Anderlecht Bayern Munich have also qualified after beating Celtic 2-1 in Group B. In Group C Chelsea were well beaten losing by 3 goals to Roma leaving the Italian team top of the group but Chelsea clinging on in second. A one-all draw between Athletico Madrid and Azerbaijan ‘s Qarabag leaves the Spanish team’s chances of getting through in the balance. Disappointingly no goals in the Olympiakos – Barcelona match but the result still leaves Barcelona top of Group D Juventus had hoped to seal their place in the knockouts if they’d won against Sporting Lisbon but a poor first half saw them come away with only a one all draw.
