Pull up your socks in support of World Down Syndrome Day

·1 min read

Kincardine and area businesses are answering the call from Community Living Kincardine and District to dress their windows with fantastic footwear displays during the 2021 Lots of Socks campaign.

Currently, 68 businesses have signed up for the annual promotion, which runs until March 21, World Down Syndrome Day. World Down Syndrome Day began in 2012 as a way to raise awareness, and advocate for the rights, inclusion and well-being of people with Down syndrome.

Catherine Evans says a committee from Community Living will judge the entries and declare the top two businesses. The two finalists will have their businesses posted on social media and the community will pick the winner and recipient of the coveted golden sock award. Voting will be open to the public between Mar. 20 and 21 at noon. The award will be presented to the winner based on the availability of the business (because of the pandemic restrictions).

The public is also encouraged to pull on their funkiest, funniest socks and wear them for everyone to see on Mar. 21, to show their support for World Down Syndrome Day. Participants can take a sock selfie and post to social media using the hashtag @CommunityLivingKD and tag Community Living. The global campaign hashtags are #WDSD21, #LotsofSocks, #WorldDownSyndromeDay.
