There's reason to up your pumpkin game this fall.

Aside from serving as home-décor this season, consider eating these orange squashes, as they can also boost the nutritional value in your daily diet, according to nutritionist Diane Murphy.

Murphy says pumpkins are full of fibre, rich in vitamin A, and burst with flavour.

Her pro-tip is to “look for the smaller sugar pumpkins -- they have a closed grained flesh and are easier. They also bring a ton more flavour."

Murphy suggests steaming or baking pumpkins. You can also blend them into an easy fall soup.

Sugar Pumpkin Smoothie

  • 2 cups almond milk (or other dairy free milk)

  • ½ cup pumpkin puree

  • 3 Tbsp hemp hearts

  • ½ - 1 tsp honey

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

  • ¼ tsp cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp cardamom

  • ¼ tsp ground ginger

  • ¼ tsp ground turmeric

Add everything into the blender and blend until smooth.
