Pumpkin season starts this weekend. These Northern California farms let you pick your own
Fall officially begins Saturday, which means pumpkin patches across the Sacramento region will soon open their gates to customers looking for the perfect jack-o-lantern.
The Sacramento Bee compiled a list of 14 pumpkin patches across Sacramento, Placer, Yuba and Yolo counties gearing up for the spooky season. Some offer free admission, others don’t.
Here’s what we found.
Dave’s Pumpkin Patch
Vierra Farms in West Sacramento is home to Dave’s Pumpkin Patch. The entire family can climb aboard the hayride and pick their favorite pumpkins.
The farm also offers mazes, pig races and pony rides. The patch opens on Saturday and is open through the end of October.

Tickets: $12 to $70 (for a family package)
What to know: The farms only accept cash or checks on the premises.
Keema’s Pumpkin Farm
“Come enjoy the Country” at Keema’s Pumpkin Farm, according to its website. Established in 2007, the farm is home to a variety of pumpkins for the picking, typically ranging between $2 and $20.
Once you’re there, you can also visit the corn maze and look at the animals. Keema’s Pumpkin Farms opens on Friday, Sept. 29 and closes on Tuesday, Oct. 31.

Little Field Farms
Little Field Farms in Loomis is slated to reopen on Saturday featuring “all things pumpkin” including patches and slingshots. The “best” patch in Placer County closes at the end of October, according to its website.

Bishop Pumpkin Farm
Bishop Pumpkin Farm offers hayrides into the field so guests can pick their own pumpkin. The patch opened in early September and runs through Sunday, Nov. 5.

What to know: Be prepared for uneven ground
Bobby Dazzler’s Pumpkin Patch
Bobby Dazzler’s Pumpkin Patch will open for the season on Saturday with a variety of pumpkins. According to its website, prices depend on both size and variety. The patch closes on Oct. 31.
Pets are not allowed, the farm wrote on its website. Service animals are welcome.
