A newborn puppy was rescued by police after he was cruelly left inside a boiling hot car with the windows unopened.

The hero officers who saw the poor pooch alone inside the car as temperatures in Pensacola, Florida, reached a sweltering 33C, decided to act swiftly to rescue him.

Without a second thought, they smashed the window of the vehicle, freeing the dog from what was fast becoming an oven.

The Pensacola Police Department were scathing about any pet owner leaving dogs inside cars.

They wrote: “Don’t. Just don’t. If you leave your dog in a hot car and that dog is suffering, we will do whatever we have to do to free him.”

The puppy was taken to Escambia County Animal Shelter where he was later returned to his owner.

Pensacola PD said they would not hesitate in prosecuting anyone else who left their pets to suffer.

They added: “We will drive your pooch to the caring folks at the Escambia County Animal Shelter and we will drop you off with the caring folks at the Escambia County Detention Facility.

“You will both receive attention, food, and shelter, albeit different kinds. So, don’t.”
