Quebec City car crash kills man, pregnant woman

A 30-year-old pregnant woman and a 29-year-old man are dead after a collision in Quebec City's Limoilou neighbourhood on Sunday night.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 28-year-old woman, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. She was arrested for impaired driving and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

Two vehicles collided at around midnight near the corner of 18th Street and 4th Avenue.

According to early information, one of the two drivers ran through a red light. Police said the impact was fairly violent, with both cars ricocheting off each other and into a residential building.

Doctors were unable to save the unborn child.

Investigators spent the early-morning hours of Monday on the scene trying to reconstitute the scene of the crash.

Police would not say whether alcohol or speed played a role in the incident.
