Quebec Paralympian's stolen race bike found, another still missing

A bicycle recovered by Quebec City police over the weekend is one of the two stolen from Paralympic cyclist Marie-Ève Croteau last week.

"I'm happy — it's very cool," Croteau said today of the speedy recovery of her stolen bike. "There's still a bit of good in everyone."

She said she couldn't comment on how police located the bike, but said there are a few superficial repairs that will need to be made.

Last week, two race bikes were stolen from the Quebec City condo of the world-champion cyclist, who is set to compete at her first Paralympic Games in Rio.

Surveillance tapes show two men broke into the garage of Croteau's building in the Charlesbourg neighbourhood Monday night. They cut the cable of the bikes' lock before fleeing in a car where a third accomplice was waiting.

The robbery was only discovered on Friday.

Croteau was able to identify one of her bikes today. The other remains missing.

She hopes the public can help her locate the second bike before she leaves for Rio in September.

Bike manufacturer Louis Garneau offered to replace Croteau's custom bikes when word got out that they were stolen.
