Quebec provincial police to help local authorities with double killing near Montreal

LONGUEUIL, Que. — Quebec provincial police will assist investigators in Longueuil in their probe of an alleged double homicide Friday evening just south of Montreal.

Provincial police dispatched a mobile command centre today to the parking lot of a shopping plaza where the killings took place.

A 42-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man were shot and killed at about 8:15 p.m., and found close to each other in the commercial lot.

Provincial police issued a statement saying they were brought into the investigation because of the nature of the crime and due to the current context of armed violence in the region.

Police say initial information suggests the victims were targeted by gunfire from a vehicle that fled the scene before officers arrived.

There have been no arrests and investigators are trying to determine if the people involved knew each other and whether the shooting was a settling of accounts.
