Quebecers identified as 2 killed in Sept-Îles helicopter crash

Blandine Pinette-Fontaine and Pierre-Michel Fontaine have been identified by the Quebec coroner as the two people who died in a helicopter crash on the North Shore on Wednesday.

Pinette-Fontaine was a 68-year-old resident of Sept-Îles, while Fontaine, 49, lived in Quebec City.

The Quebec coroner released the names on Thursday. Spokeswoman Geneviève Guilbault said autopsies will be done on Friday and that the reports on their causes of death will be released to the public in the months to come.

Three other people aboard the helicopter who survived the crash were taken to hospital in Sept-Îles. Their conditions are unknown.

She would not confirm whether the two were related.

The helicopter went down on Wednesday morning in a wooded, rugged area of the province's North Shore region.

​The Bell 206 helicopter had left from the airport in nearby Sept-Îles, about 650 kilometres northeast of Quebec City.

It crashed just 30 kilometres from the airport around 9:45 a.m.

In a release issued Wednesday afternoon, the Transportation Safety Board said a team of investigators had been deployed to the site to collect information and try to determine what happened.
