Keeping children occupied during the coronavirus lockdown is a daunting prospect to many parents. To help, the Queen has announced a new crafting initiative for children at home to partake in.

Announcing the new project via the Royal Family’s Twitter page, the post read: “Every Monday we’ll be sharing fun activities and learning resources for your children to enjoy at home. Today, why not design your own #Investiture medal?”

A downloadable worksheet is now available online, showing the outline of an investiture medal that can be coloured in at home.

To encourage creativity, beside the drawing were various questions: “What colours are you going to use? What patterns and symbols are you going to include? Maybe you want to add something that symbolises you or your family?”

With education in mind, a second post helps children understand what the medal means. “Medals are given to The Queen or other members of The Royal Family to people for special achievements, bravery, services to the United Kingdom. Who would your medal be for?”

The Queen has reportedly vacated Buckingham Palace in favour of Windsor Castle amid coronavirus fears.

According to reports, the monarch, 93, was relocated from her London home to her countryside residence in Berkshire last month.
