Questions raised after NASA images show strange blue sphere

Images of a mysterious blue object floating past the sun have some people wondering if perhaps we aren’t alone in the universe.

A set of photos captured by NASA’s SECCHI STEREO HI1 satellite this month shows what appears to be a blue sphere flying past the surface of the sun. The images now have some wondering just what could have caused the unusual sighting, with more creative theories suggesting this could be substantial evidence of a UFO.

And Facebook user Pamela Johnson has added fuel to the conspiracy theory’s flame. She recently posted the photos to her Facebook page and added her own commentary about the blue object’s potential origin.

“Our sun is casting the light that is coming in from the left side of the frame. This satellite’s archives showed the sun began reacting to this object on November 15th and there are several frames missing on the 15th and 16th. Wow!”

She was also kind enough to add a word of encouragement for anyone worried about the potential of a hostile alien threat.

“I have just consulted my divining rods and they indicate this is one of the blue spheres not to fear.”

Johnson’s Facebook post was later picked up by the Youtube channel UFOmania, sparking even further debate from both skeptics and true-believers in the comment section.

But NASA has an explanation for the strange blue orb sighting that has much less to do with alien life and more to do with faulty equipment.

A NASA website dedicated to the satellite clarifies that occasionally the space agency’s image processor can become overloaded, resulting in corrupted photos.

“Generally, these take the form of images from one telescope processed as if they were from another telescope,” the post reads.

“Because the images from the Heliospheric Imager (HI) telescopes are built up from a large number of exposures added together, this sometimes results in ‘double exposures’, where data from several telescopes appear in the same image.”

And as for object’s eerie blue appearance?

As The Independent reports, the images taken by the satellite are actually captured in black and white before later being put through a blue filter, hence the reason the mysterious sphere appears to be blue.

So even if this was a real-life example of a UFO, the aliens inside it wouldn’t necessarily look anything like the members of the Blue Man Group.
