Quilchena Creek fire burning out of control

A wildfire that was discovered southeast of Merritt at Quilchena Creek on April 4 has now grown to 300 hectares and is considered by the BC Wildfire Service to be out of control.

No official cause has yet been determined, but the fire is suspected to be human caused.

A fire at Pimainus Ridge Road, near Shackan Reserve is similarly believed to be human caused. This fire was discovered on April 5, and is estimated to be less than one hectare at this time. It is listed as a new fire by BC Wildfire Service, with no status for stage of control.

Another fire near the Coldwater Reserve is said by the BC Wildfire Service to be under control at 50 hectares.
