Rachel McAdams Makes an Ethereal Arrival in Pink Twisted Knot Dress for ‘Mary Jane’ Broadway Debut
Rachel McAdams attended the opening night premiere of “Mary Jane” on Broadway at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on Sunday in New York City while wearing a look from JW Anderson‘s fall 2024 collection.
Shortly before making her Broadway debut, the Academy Award nominee walked the show’s red carpet in a slightly sheer, airy pink gown. In addition to the dress’ high neckline and miniature train, the garment was adorned with a twisted hemline, crafted by taking excess material from the gown’s length and bringing it up through the waistline in a singular rope-like twist.

Playing with proportion, a number of other pieces from JW Anderson’s fall 2024 collection use unique textural elements to create sculptural silhouettes unreliant on the body’s natural curvatures. In addition to several other gowns similarly designed with large rope twists in colorful shades of red, green and blue, the brand’s most recent presentation included oversized coats adorned with exaggerated shoulders, fringe skirts crafted with strands of thick-cut ribbon and enlarged knitted textiles made into matching sets.
McAdams balanced her gown’s organic silhouette with a pair of edgy metallic silver pumps crafted with a sharp pointed-toe. As for the star’s styling, McAdam’s long dark tresses were tossed over her shoulders in loose waves and her makeup was kept natural, using rosy tones on her lips on cheeks to emulate the pink hues found in her dress.
Written by Pulitzer Prize finalist Amy Herzog, “Mary Jane” is the story of a single mother who uses optimism, humor and inspiration from the women around her to persist during an impossible family situation. McAdams stars in the show alongside Megumi Nakamura, Susanna Guzman, April Matthis, Susan Pourfar, Brenda Wehle, Lily Santiago and Katya Campbell.
