Rachel Notley says election about best interests of Tories, not Alberta
The leader of the provincial NDP says Jim Prentice's arrogance is apparent when it comes to the possibility of a spring election.
Rachel Notley says the recent spate of resignations from the PC caucus demonstrate that Alberta is on the eve of a provincial election.
"We've seen some fairly capable ministers leave. Their front bench right now is getting a great deal less experience," she says.
Notley charges that the Premier is playing coy with Albertans by hinting that an election may be needed so the government can deal with the financial shortfall caused by low oil prices.
She says if Prentice does call an election this spring, it is about the best interests of the PC party — not about the best interests of Albertans.
No matter what happens, Notley says the NDP is ready to go to the electorate.
"We're feeling quite optimistic about our chances," she said.
