Raiders’ Jimmy G out following foot surgery in March. When could he return?
Jimmy Garopollo is not participating in Las Vegas Raiders’ organized team activities following left foot surgery in March.
The Athletic first reported the surgery.
The Raiders signed Jimmy G to a free-agent contract mid-March after spending several seasons with the San Francisco 49ers.
He suffered a broken foot during the 2022 season against the Miami Dolphins in the first quarter in Week 13. He never returned to the 49ers and later signed a deal with the Raiders..
Prior to the signing and a press conference was announced, there was a delay before things could get ironed out.
The signing was made official, but not before Jimmy G had surgery thereafter.
NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero said it was a “clean-up” procedure and reportedly is progressing well.
“He’s going through his process just like we knew he would,” Raiders coach Josh McDaniels said Thursday. “Nothing has happened that would surprise us based on the information we had.”
With Garoppolo’s injury history, there will always be concern. Raider Nation are hoping Jimmy G can stay healthy throughout the NFL season.
Brian Hoyer, Chase Garbers and rookie Aidan O’Connell are the other Raiders quarterbacks.
Unless there is a setback, Garoppolo would be ready for training camp in Henderson, which typically begins late July. He could return some time in August, as well as other teammates.
“Could be,” McDaniels said. “I mean, I’d say with all these guys it’s about the same. Like I said, when they’re ready. Some of them may be ready before the spring is over, some of them may not. And we’re always going to err at this time of the year on being smart. Try to rush them out there to get them out there in May, that’s a poor decision. All these guys are doing a great job with what they can do in terms of the rehab. They’re in all the meetings, all the football things that they can do that aren’t jeopardizing anybody’s ability to be ready to go here for the season.”
