Rain, snow and cold to hit Sacramento and Tahoe. Here’s what to prepare for this week
Sacramento’s chilling cold front is pushing out just in time for wet, cloudy weather.
While rain is forecast to fall Thursday night and Friday, the capital city probably won’t see much of it — besides a few sprinkles in the Sacramento Valley. Dry weather will return Friday and Saturday ahead of a stronger rain Sunday, said meteorologist Cory Mueller with the National Weather Service.
Between a quarter of an inch and a half of an inch of rain could fall from Saturday night to Sunday. If you have weekend plans in Tahoe, it’s a good idea to check the forecast before you travel.

Light mountain snow could fall Thursday night into Friday across the Sierra, potentially causing travel delays and slick roads. A heavier storm is forecast to follow Sunday, Mueller said, with a potential of 1 to 2 inches of snow.
Cold weather returns to Sacramento
Chilly weather will return to Sacramento next week, which is normal for this time of year.
Temperatures earlier in the week were below average, Mueller said, but “it wasn’t uncommon for winter in California.”
February kicked off to a chilling start of 34 degrees. Here’s how the surrounding areas made out:

Some advice: Bundle up, especially in the mornings, until temperatures start to warm up in March.
