Rashida Jones: 'I'm Not Tan, I'm Ethnic'

There were plenty of awkward moments during the 21st Annual Screen Actors Guild awards in Los Angeles yesterday, but this red carpet run-in definitely takes the cake.

While walking the red carpet, biracial actress Rashida Jones – who stars in Parks and Recreation and new show Angie Tribeca and who is of both Black and Jewish heritage– was told she was "very tan" by a report.

A TNT correspondent, Danielle Demski, commented on the actress’ "tropical" appearance, saying, "you look like you’ve just come off an island or something."

"You’re very tan, very tropical," she continued.

Jones – whose father is legendary music and and producer Quincy Jones – was quick to respond to the bizarre comment.

"I mean, you know, I’m ethnic,' she said.

The interview wasn’t the only awkward red-carpet moment, with a few high-profile female stars refusing to take part in E!’s Mani Cam on the night.

Julianne Moore – who later won the Best Actress award for her role in Still Alice – refused to take part in the stunt, where actresses are asked to parade their fingers for a close-up of their manicures and jewelry.

"No, I’m not doing that," she told E! host Maria Menounos.

Fellow Best Actress nominees Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon also said no when asked to participate.
