The RCMP major crimes unit is investigating what it's calling a suspicious death in Airdrie, just north of Calgary.

RCMP say that around 8:38 a.m. Wednesday, officers received a report that there was an unresponsive man found along the Nose Creek pathway, behind the Willowbrook neighbourhood. In a media release, police said the man was dead and the death is believed to be suspicious.

The forensic identification section has been called in to assist, RCMP say. An autopsy has been ordered by the office of the Chief Medical Examiner and is scheduled to take place on Thursday morning.

Earlier Wednesday, RCMP said, there was heavy police presence in the Willowbrook neighborhood and pedestrians were not allowed through. People were asked to stay clear of the area.
