Be ready, Quebec. More heavy rain could be coming says Environment Canada
Montreal and other parts of southern Quebec may be in for another round of heavy rain Wednesday evening.
The Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) forecast calls for isolated thunderstorms beginning in the late afternoon and lasting into the evening for much of southern Quebec including the Montreal area.
The agency issued a special weather statement advising that thunderstorms could bring heavy rainfall and exacerbate flooding damage caused by the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby.
Last Friday, more than 170 millimetres of rain fell on Southern Quebec, flooding basements and washing away roads across the province.
"Heavy rain could cause local flash flooding and may affect structures, roads and buildings already weakened by last week's events," the ECCC statement said. "Please remain vigilant in the event of heavy rain."
Late Wednesday afternoon, the agency issued severe thunderstorm warnings for the island of Montreal, specifically the eastern part of the island, as well as Laval, Longueuil as well as Trois-Rivières.
A larger swath of the province's southern regions has been issued special weather statements for rainfall.
States of emergency declared because of the flooding remained in effect in 12 Southern Quebec municipalities on Wednesday.
