Robert F. Kennedy Jr. believes the CIA was behind the assassination of his uncle President John F. Kennedy, and he plans to prove it—with a little help from a friend, according to reports.

Axios reported Tuesday that the Department of Health and Human Services secretary nominee has been back-channeling support to get his daughter-in-law and former campaign manager Amaryllis Fox Kennedy nominated to a role as deputy director of the intelligence agency, as part of an elaborate scheme to uncover more details about the 1963 killing.

The same title now cites two Republican sources who say Bobby is hellbent on “getting to the bottom” of the saga during President-elect Donald Trump’s second stint in the White House. “RFK believes that and wants to get to the bottom of it,” one of the sources said of alleged federal involvement.

And while Trump has already named former intelligence director John Ratcliffe to lead the CIA, the deputy position is one that holds real influence. It could also give Fox Kennedy the chance to dig into the CIA’s non public knowledge of the shooting, carried out by Lee Harvey Oswald.

Trump, who has promised to release the last of the JFK assassination files, enjoys a relationship with RFK that is “one of the strangest in modern political history,” according to The New York Times. However, it could be an important one.

In August, Trump said: “I will establish a new independent presidential commission on assassination attempts, and they will be tasked with releasing all of the remaining documents pertaining to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.”

For his part, Kennedy has publicly namechecked the CIA in regards to his uncle’s killing. He has linked the agency to his father’s death, too.

“The evidence is overwhelming that the CIA was involved in the murder and in the cover-up,” Kennedy said on The Cats Roundtable with John Catsimatidis in May 2023 of his uncle’s death.

Fox Kennedy is a former CIA operative who spent 10 years at the agency as an operative. She chronicled her experiences in the 2019 memoir, Life Undercover: Coming of Age in the CIA. The book was met with controversy over reports that she didn’t get the details of the memoir cleared with the CIA’s Publication Review Board before releasing it.

In 2018, she officially joined the Kennedy family when she tied the knot with Bobby Kennedy III in a bare-foot and beachside wedding ceremony in Cape Cod.
